My name is Susan (Brooks) Shaw from the AHS class of 1983. I recently published a book about my youngest daughter,
Faith Mackenzie Shaw, who passed away at the age of 18 on November 12, 2019. The name of the book is “Journey of Faith”,
which is a book not only about a girl named Faith, but also about her tremendous faith in Christ throughout her life-long
journey with cystic fibrosis and a double lung transplant when she was 17. She was a tremendous inspiration to people
not only across the United States but had people following her story from as far away as Japan, Brazil, the UK,
the Netherlands and more! One of her final wishes to me before she passed away was to keep her story alive.
As I’ve shared with many people and many posts on our social media page, Lungs4Faith (FB and Instagram),
she was not afraid of dying because she knew where she was going but was afraid of her story dying with her.
After two years writing the book and nearly two years in the editing and publishing process, “Journey of Faith”
was finally released on May 15th, which also happens to be Faith’s birthday. She would have been 23 this year in 2024.
If you’d like to find out more about Faith, a brief summary of her story and the book, please go to https://JourneyOfFaithBook.com!
“Journey of Faith” is currently available online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, and ThriftBooks.
Author SusanBrooksShaw is a new AHS author from the AHS class of 1983. Susan Shaw was born in Durham, North Carolina,
in 1965. As she grew up, she spent many years in the Midwest and graduated from Ames High School class of 1983,
then Arizona before returning in 1999 to the Carolinas, where her heart had always remained.
She now lives in Concord, North Carolina with her sweet dog, Scarlett, whom she thoroughly loves to spoil.
The youngest of three children, Susan grew up in a close-knit family, and considers her family and her faith to be the
most important priorities in her life. She enjoys spending quality time with her daughters, their husbands,
and her precious grandchildren, all of whom also live in North Carolina. She sings in the Worship Band with her
church of more than fifteen years and works for an environmental company that she has been with for nearly twenty-four years.
In her spare time, she enjoys playing guitar, playing competitive pool, and ‘power walking’ in the park with her best friend.
She is an avid reader, but “Journey of Faith” is her first venture into writing a book of her own.
